Rugg-Doc Holsteins is owned by Dr. Jeff Rugg. Dr. Rugg is also the owner of Stevens Point Veterinary Service, which specializes in dairy production medicine, in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. He was born and raised on a registered Holstein farm in Austin, Minnesota. He earned his B.S. in Dairy Science in 1980 and D.V.M. in 1984 both from Iowa State University. He has been a practicing bovine veterinarian for the past 25 years.

With strong backgrounds in dairy management, disease prevention and control, and cattle selection, a smooth transition to a breeder of elite Holstein genetics is the aim of Rugg-Doc Holsteins. Our goal is to develop bloodlines that will be type-filled, genetically superior, profitable, and marketable, while taking advantage of genomic testing and incorporation of this technology into both the breeding and acquisition processes. With these goals in mind, an investment process in elite genetics began 2002. It is our plan to market embryos, bulls to enter A.I. studs, provide foundation genetics for other Holstein breeders throughout the world, and develop solid pedigrees of modern cattle. The Ralma Juror Faith cow family has been the initial focus due to their extraordinary type values, maternal genetic transmitting ability, and marketing appeal. We are in the process of expanding that base with a few more genomically superior animals. The initial selections and their continued development has been impressive and has exceeded our initial expectations. Numerous A.I. and embryo contracts exist on most of these animals.

I wish to thank Ralma Holsteins (Al and Mark Schmitt) for breeding the great Juror Faith cow family and making animals available to us and fellow breeders throughout the world. Their ability to breed and develop this cow family will benefit the Holstein breed for decades to come. All of the Rugg-Doc Holstein herd is housed at Trinrud's White-Tail Valley Dairy in Waupaca, Wisconsin. Most importantly, we wish to thank White-Tail Valley Dairy (Dale, Evalie, Brad and Ruth Trinrud) for allowing us to bring these animals into their herd and care for them as if they were their own. Without the Trinrud's patience, generosity, and friendship over the years, we could not have aspired to fullfill this lifelong dream of working with elite cattle. The lactating cows are milked at the Trinrud's to enable us to measure their performance relative to herdmates in a commercial setting. Carmel and Classic have recently been moved to Sunshine Genetics for more aggressive embryo retrieval. Thank you to everyone who has helped make our dreams come true. Please feel free to contact Dr. Rugg or the Trinrud's and stop by for a scheduled visit!
